We Said We’d Never Post Our Kids on Social Media — Then Our Daughter Went Viral

We said we would NEVER post our kids on social media…
As devoted parents, we stood our ground when grandparents tried to convince us to share cute photos of our little ones online. The thought of exposing our children’s lives to the vastness of the internet gave us immense pause. However, everything changed after one unforgettable moment.
It all began the day 6-year-old Lovely Lucy won a gold medal in jiu-jitsu by submitting five opponents. We were overflowing with pride, and in a burst of excitement, we put together a highlight video showcasing her five submissions. It was a proud parent moment — one we thought would be a simple, one-time post.
But as fate would have it, that video went VIRAL.
Suddenly, our little girl, lovingly dubbed “the little girl in leopard print,” was gaining recognition. News articles featured her story, local news outlets reached out, and doors began to open for our family in ways we could have never imagined. Exciting, yes, but it also stirred a whirlwind of emotions.
Behind those viral moments lay the weight of anxiety, fear, and some serious conversations about privacy and parenting. Were we doing the right thing? Were we compromising our child's comfort for the sake of likes and shares?
So why did we ultimately decide to keep posting?
Through our journey, we realized that social media has the potential to be more than just a platform for entertainment. It became a powerful tool to document our children’s journeys, connect with a community of amazing people, and create unique opportunities for their bright futures.
To navigate this new chapter, we established a few strict boundaries to ensure that our children’s well-being remains the priority:
✔️ Family comes first
✔️ Privacy matters
✔️ Our kids’ comfort matters most
✔️ We treat social media like an online scrapbook of their journeys, rather than a public diary
Reflecting on this whole experience, it’s been a wild, unexpected ride filled with emotional moments. Yet, we feel an immense sense of gratitude for the community that has grown alongside us. From fellow parents cheering Lucy on to supportive messages from strangers who resonate with our journey, it reaffirms the beauty of connection in today’s digital age.
