The Truth About Live Streaming Kids’ Sports on Social Media
Share
In today’s world of social media, the impulses to share every moment can be overwhelming. We often receive questions about why we don’t live stream matches, especially when it seems simple to hold up a phone and broadcast an event. However, the reality is much more complicated than it appears.
Combat sports are intense, emotional, and deeply personal, particularly when children are involved. As such, we take our responsibility to respect every athlete on the mat seriously.
Respecting Young Athletes
At the core of our decision not to stream live matches lies our commitment to all young athletes who choose to compete. These children are learning and growing in their sport, and tournaments provide them with invaluable experiences. Emotions run high—matches can be challenging, mistakes happen, and injuries can occur. We never want to contribute to feelings of humiliation, embarrassment, or unwanted exposure for any child.
Instead, we focus on showcasing our own children’s accomplishments while avoiding making their opponents the center of attention. Unfortunately, live streaming can unintentionally shift the focus and create an environment that could lead to discomfort for the young athletes involved.
The Chaos of Tournaments
Let’s face it—tournaments are chaotic. Matches seldom follow the predetermined schedule. Some children might be called up earlier than anticipated, while others can face long delays before competing. Add in the challenge of managing multiple children and navigating a bustling tournament site while keeping an eye on a rambunctious toddler, and it becomes apparent that live streaming in such an environment is much harder than it looks.
No one wants to hear my heavy breathing into the microphone while I’m sprinting from mat to mat. It's not a good look, and it certainly doesn’t make for an enjoyable viewing experience!
Prioritizing Privacy
Privacy is another crucial factor in our decision to avoid live broadcasts. While we love sharing highlights of our children’s athletic journeys across social media, we still believe in maintaining boundaries. Live streaming can unintentionally reveal sensitive personal information, specific locations, or moments we simply aren’t comfortable sharing with the world at large.
We prioritize the safety and comfort of all our young athletes, and part of that commitment involves being mindful of what we choose to broadcast.
Emphasizing Highlights and Special Moments
While we won’t be streaming matches live, we are more than happy to share highlights, accomplishments, and memorable moments from tournaments. Our focus will remain on celebrating all the successes and growth of the athletes, balanced with the respect, safety, and privacy that every child deserves.
Our choice not to stream live matches stems from our desire to foster a supportive and respectful environment for all young athletes involved. We’re proud to be part of their journey, and we will continue to share our children’s growth in meaningful and thoughtful ways. Thank you for understanding our perspective!
